Super 8! Die ganze Breite des schmalen Streifens

October 9 - 31, 2015
Curated by Flo Kaufmann und Yves Niederhäuser

“On the occasion of the Global Super 8 Day on 24 October, events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this film format will be organized in the whole world, the Künstlerhaus S11 presents this medium for three weeks: exhibition, projections accompanied by live music, installations, thematic film programs and a workshop: shooting film and developing it using self-brewed chocolate-based solutions.

The program covers both the production as well as the reception context and preservation questions and deals with the whole breadth of popular, artistic, documentary, experimental and commercial appropriation of the narrow stripe. In addition to international work and found footage the local reference will be made, and children and adults will be given the opportunity to interact.”

Global Super 8 Day

October 24, 2015
Curated by Florian Olloz und David Pfluger

“The Global Super8 Day is a grassroots phenomenon, which began in the year 2000t - the film format of amateurs, Super8, declared dead by the industry in the mid-80s, witnessed at the end of the 20th century a new boom. The scene began to connect over the internet and small festivals sprang up like mushrooms. Lutz Kayser from Hamburg and Beatrice Jäggi from Zurich invented the term "Global Super8 Day" on the occasion of the "formula Super8" festival in Zurich in 2000 on a whim, but more and more people began to name their annual Super8 Festival Global Super8 Day.

Following this example, the cine-artists of Mobileskino / Mobile Cinema Florian Olloz and David Pfluger decided in autumn 2014 to start another initiative for the 50 anniversary of the Super8 format in 2015. The initiative met with great response and now there'll be more than 60 cities in over 30 countries on 5 continents participating in the celebration of Super8. Film projections, installations, performances, discussions, workshops etc. will reflect the richness of the Super8 scene.”
