„The Magic of Super 8“
Experimental-Film-Entwicklungs-Workshop in der Filmarche in Berlin-Neukölln!

The filmArche:
As a non-profit association, filmArche offers an alternative to state film schools and commercial training programmes.

This workshop is open for students as well as for externs.

In this two-day workshop you will learn everything about super 8 filming and developing in coffee and plant based developer.
All about Super 8: history and aesthetics, what are film layers made of, how is a short film created, how can I realize my little idea, what cameras are there and how do they work, how are we all connected and why do food leftovers work as a developer – the magic of the haptic analog claws us and spins us into the universe of ecologically harmless organic soups!

Super 8 is an extremely sexy material: it is warm-colored, has unbeatable, deep blacks as well as grays which you can never achieve digitally. It is partially mysteriously out of focus, natural-grained, not 100% planable and comes, when the filmmaker extends her antennas properly and throws herself into the Wabi-Sabi, very close to the object, to the scenery, the happening, the story, the emotion.

Meeting, having a coffee, talk about Super 8 and (alternative) developing history, a short introduction to how a camera works, getting to know developing possibilities … Watching some sample films ... and then it's time to go out: we film spontaneous films (a Super 8 cassette contains 15 metres of film = 3 minutes) in groups and afterwards these films will be developed together: in home-made organic soup!

No previous knowledge is required! All films will be digitised later. Everyone will receive the films to download and edit for personal use.

The workshop languages are English and German.
